SIRC will open a girls’ only class from April 2022. This is to meet the request from SIRC girls players and their parents, even though the Japan Rugby Football Union (JRFU) allows mixed gender play up to U-15 age groups.
The age for this special class is girls born between 2 April 2007 2 April 2010 (corrected 2022-04-07)and 1 April 2014. The head coach will be Duncan Grey, Deputy Head of Secondary and PE teacher at the British School in Tokyo.
At SIRC, contact rugby will be introduced when they join Jr Samurai (children born between 2nd April 2012 and 1st April 2014), but in the girls’ class, both non-contact and contact rugby are played step by step.
We also have partnerships with Setagaya-ku Rugby Schools to plan joint classes and friendly games.
The first class will take place on Sunday 10 April, 9:00-10:30. at the schoolyard of Showa Primary School in Showa Women’s University Campus, Sangenjaya.
