First Solo Training Camp Report for the Tag Group

From 19th to 21st July, the Ninja, Shuriken, and Dragons held their first solo training camp in Sugadaira, Nagano Prefecture. In order to provide more opportunities for games, the camp was held independently this year, with 31 children and 30 coaches and parents participating. Over the three days, the camp included participation in the Junior Jamboree, exchange matches with Bunkyo RS, Kawaguchi RS, Keiyo RS, Minato RS, and Nagano City RS, and a total of approximately 70 games. Coaches Geo and Reeze, both from South Africa, also joined the camp, making it a memorable experience characteristic of the Shibuya International Rugby Club.

Comments from Team Leader Masato Minamizuka

“Thanks to Kawamura-senpai, I was able to add off-road passes and the technique of drawing defenders inside and then passing outside to score tries to my Shuriken moves. As a result, I was able to compete in the best team and win 9-0, which was the best game of my life.
Ebi Coach said, ‘Eat plenty of food. That’s the key to success,‘ so I ate even the things I didn’t like. During the souvenir shopping time, I bought a kick tee and practised at the park near my house. When summer vacation starts, I’m going to Sugadaira to kick the rugby ball around. Sugadaira is the best!’

SHOGUN Sugadaira Training Camp Report

From 25th to 27th July, SHOGUN held a training camp in Sugadaira.
This year, due to the limited number of participants, the U13 team held a joint camp with Urawa Rugby School, while the U14/15 team held a separate camp with seven visiting players who had temporarily returned from overseas. Additionally, three girl players participated and took part in a girls’ tournament.

Head Coach Terry’s Comments

The Sugadaira Rugby Camp was an unforgettable experience and a true milestone in our team’s journey. Over just three days, our players showed not only their growth on the rugby field, but also their strength of character off it. We saw young athletes from diverse backgrounds come together as one team, overcoming challenges, supporting one another, and forming friendships that go well beyond the game.

This camp was a powerful reminder that rugby teaches us more than how to pass or tackle – it teaches us about resilience, respect, teamwork, and leadership. I was especially proud of how our players welcomed visiting teammates and showed what it means to represent our club with pride and integrity.

These are the kinds of experiences that shape not only better players, but better people. I’m incredibly grateful to our support staff, families, and every player who brought such spirit to the camp. The bonds formed in Sugadaira will stay with us long after the final whistle.
